A native of our area has reportedly been killed while serving in Afghanistan.
According to our news partners at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, family members say 39-year-old Michael Slebodnik, who was most recently living in Tennessee, suffered a fatal gunshot wound during a mission.
Slebodnik, a chief warrant officer, joined the Army in 1987, and was on his first tour in Afghanistan after serving in Operation Desert Storm and several tours of duty in Iraq, the PG reports.
He graduated from the old Richland High School before joining the Army.
