News - Marching for marriage

ALBANY, N.Y. -- "This says sisters supporting sisters," says Lisa Pietrzak, pointing to her T-shirt.

Her entire family is wearing matching shirts in support of their sister Brenda.
Along with the gay community, Brenda and her sisters are trying to light a fire, a fire that would force the New York State Senate to pass a marriage equality bill.
"With the elections coming up, the state senators and stuff, I think this is going to be an awesome way to support what we need to do," said Brenda Straley.

With Governor Paterson and the state assembly on board, many at Sunday's march said it's only a matter of to time before New York legalizes sex marriages.
"I think in New York State we're pretty safe and he's going to keep to his word. He's going to do that. Nationally I'm not so sure." said Michael Davis of Albany.
Under the nation's flag this group wants their message to shine bright and clear. Using umbrellas, friends, family, and supporters recreated the rainbow to showcase their solidarity.
"We're all different colors. We're all different races. We're all different genders, you know, orientations. It just symbolizes how diverse we are and that we need to treat each other equally," said Straley.

Armed with an arsenal of color they marched for their mission, up and down the Hudson River Way Pedestrian Bridge.
The march across the bridge coincides with those taking place in San Francisco and New York City, showing that the upstate gay and lesbian community want the same marital rights they feel they deserve.
"We want equal rights. We want to be able to marry. It's not about religion, it's not about anything. It's just that we deserve it. We are not second class citizen. We deserve it," said Straley.
Until this community achieves those rights, they say they'll continue marching toward equality.
