Longview, Hallsville, West Rusk and Henderson independent school districts will not have classes today. Spring Hill ISD will begin at 9 a.m.
Six of the Longview's campuses did not have electricity Sunday, said Brian Bowman, district spokesman. The district has been advised by Southwestern Electric Power Co. that power may not be restored until Friday, he said. Campuses that did not have electricity include Bramlette Elementary, Mozelle Johnston Elementary, Doris McQueen Elementary and Judson Middle schools.
The maintenance and operations staff, as well as the central office staff, will report to work, Bowman said.
The district will announce plans for classes on a day-by-day basis.
Hallsville is closing its campuses today because of power failures, said Carol Greer, district spokeswoman. The district does not know when power will be restored and will announce on a daily basis whether schools will be open.
Henderson had problems with power failures and road blockages Sunday as a result of the storm, Superintendent Bobby Brown said. Blocked roads would interfere with bus routes, he said.
"To be sure that we err on the side of safety, we decided not to have classes Monday," Brown said. "We will make a decision after that regarding Tuesday classes."
Spring Hill ISD buses will begin running about 8 a.m. and classes will begin, officials said.
Other area school districts, including Pine Tree, Kilgore, White Oak, Gilmer, Tatum and Carthage, intend to have classes today
