Sports - Get Ready For TBS Baseball, Version 2.0

Last year, TBS got to host the baseball playoffs on their network. What promise! Long have TBS’ NBA broadcasts been the best in the business, whether in Marv Albert’s timeless play-by-play of the hilarious Ernie-Kenny-Charles studio show. If the baseball broadcast could even, in some small way, replicate that success, we baseball fans would be eternally grateful. Alas, no. Not only did TBS not live up to their NBA success, they were definitively worse than most other networks, even — and I shudder to say this — Fox. With the stumbling Cal Ripken, Jr., Ernie Johnson came nowhere close to replicating Inside The NBA, and the games themselves were often worked by a hodgepodge of local and national play-by-play and color teams. And there was Dane Cook.
It was a mess.

Of course, TBS is back this year, and via AA, we find out that they’re like super totally ready to ROCK YOUR FACE OFF AMERICA:

“We came in to a white-hot scenario: All of the lights were on, and all of the attention was on TBS,” Behnke said. “We thought we were very ready last year, but we’re enormously ready this year.” “You have to take chances on guys and hope some of them have the personalities to do it,” Kiely said. “Your rocks have to be the guys who can handle themselves in front of the camera.”

For TBS, that rock last year was Ripken, Kiely said. He also placed veteran announcer Johnson, who won two Emmys on TNT’s NBA studio show, as the show’s host. Eckersley was added this year because he blended well with Ripken, Kiely said.

Yes, it’s true. If you watched last night’s tiebreaker game, then you already know: Dennis Eckersley has been added to the studio show, because he “blends well” with Ripken. Indeed. Their silky smooth whiteness does blend well together, like creamy vanilla and white chocolate. Mmm. White dudes.

Of course, Eckersley’s mullet is an asset. His baseball knowledge? We’ll see.
