Fox.com reported Wednesday that Millen is out as Lions teams president. A source told The Oakland Press that Millen was fired late Tuesday night and that an official announcement is likely to come later today. Executive vice president Tom Lewand is expected to take over day-to-day operations of the team, and Rod Marinelli will remain as Lions coach. Phone calls to Millen, Lewand, Marinelli and the Lions’ public-relations department were not immediately returned. One of the most vilified , Millen leaves with a 31-84 record — the NFL’s worst in his tenure — and a history of botched draft choices and other ill-fated personnel moves. Top-10 picks Joey Harrington (2002), Charles Rogers (2003) and Mike Williams (2005) were complete busts, and just four of 26 picks from Millen’s first three drafts (2001-03) remain with the team. Beyond that, the former TV analyst who came to the Lions with no front-office training OK’d the free-agent signings of Bill Schroeder and Az-Zahir Hakim; drafted a first-round receiver for three straight years and four times overall; and hired three head coaches (not including interim Dick Jauron) without ever posting a winning record.
